How can I convert DVR-MS files to .AVI? - convert dvr files

I have Vista Ultimate Media Center two-hour documentary on public television outside of a record ... but the file DVR-MS results, which maintains the format that Media Center is a DVR, it is almost 8 GB. Is there a way to convert DVR-MS to A. AVI to make it smaller?
